Romance Blowout!

March 14, 2009 Barbara Vey will come as Tinkerbell
I can't believe it's the last day of the party today.  It's been quite the week.  The paranormal, sci-fi, fantasy, horror and urban fantasy group raised the bar high with their vampires,  dragons, champagne and Richard Armitage.   Tuesday the mystery, suspense, thriller, adventure group took over and gave us  Navajo fry bread, chocolate martinis and David Boreanez in a bathtub. The publishers, editors, bloggers, librarians got it on with Dorchester Editor Chris Keeslar bartending, Joysann's Piggyback Weinie Race and Buttery Nipples.    Thursday brought the Inspirational, YA, Graphic Novels and Nonfiction who's mariachi band, Ka'Dapple Pie and Kobe the Batdog were a big hit. Yesterday the contemporary, historical, erotica, e-Book, audio group managed to get models, cowboy and a great barbeque in the place along with ballroom dancing and Pin the tail...  So, what's the best way to finish the week?  With a full out, smackdown, Romance Blowout!  I hope everyone remembered to dress as their favorite literary character today.

I am here as Tinkerbell.  Yes, not quite the literary character you may have been thinking of, but my favorite none less (my online name is Tinkerbarb).  So, let me toss a little pixie dust over the group and get this final fling started!

"Live bats are hanging from the chandeliers (which occasionally tweeter and fly in circles when a guest gets too close to them), black cats are lazing about on empty chairs and the occasional side table, candles have replaced most of the lights and the natural light has created a very calm, mellow mood, shadows are dancing along the walls as the candles illuminate objects and the punch is blood red and looks too smooth to be tomato juice and too thick to be any other kind of juice . . . hmmm," offers Lynsay Sands.

Deirdre Knight is "breaking out the Waterford crystal and pouring unlimited amounts of the finest champagne."  Janis Susan May is, "bringing my special homemade hummus and pita bread, along with some olives and dark red wine.  I'm contributing some more Golden Tip Darjeeling tea, some yummy scones and a big pile of Devonshire cream to put on them."   Kathryne Kennedy warns us, "I would also like to provide: Some fairy dust. Sprinkle with caution. May cause delusion of wings. Do not operate heavy machinery, especially aircraft."

Martini Recipe
Kiss Martini recipe from Adelle Laudan

Sherrilyn Kenyon has offered up her Dark-Hunters as Security for the party.  Acheron is in charge, but Simi is the one you have to watch out for if you see her with barbeque sauce.  "I'll be wearing a cute fairy costume to the ball that magically takes me down three dress sizes! And I'll ask some of my fairies to sprinkle fairy dust on everyone to bring them luck in the casino behind the ballroom," says Helen Scott Taylor.

Sourcebooks Casablanca Authors AKA “Casa Babes got together for some mouthwatering dishes:   Sharon Lathan's Elizabeth Darcy's Venison Frumenty for the Discerning Man's Palette, Michele Ann Young's Jane Austen’s Favorite Bath Bun!, Mary Margret Daughtridge's Aunt Lilly Hale Sessoms’ Tipsy Cake, Terry Spear's Hot & Spicy Spaghetti for Cold Nights & Hot Dates & Wolfish Delight, Donna Lea Simpson's Magic Mushroom Catsup, Judi Fennell's Sizzlin' Sexy Scallops Scallopini~A real treat for the Mer-Minded among us, Robin Kaye's Safe for Kissin' Chicken Piccata, Loucinda McGary's Irish Boxty, Kendra Leigh Castle's Love Bitten Apple Cake, Cheryl Brooks' Cat's Out-of-this-world Cookies!, Marie Force's Line of Scrimmage Buffalo Chicken Dip Perfect for Tailgating Parties, Linda Wisdom's Good as Sex Brownies and Beth Cornelison's Creamy Pecan Pralines.

"I thought I'd bring a little spice. Some Jambalaya. Hope It's not too hot!" warns Kwana Jackson.  "Cupcakes from magical bookstore Books of Wonder are my addition to every swinging book party. Consider them frosted in rainbow colors and absolutely delicious--not to mention calorie free!" says Melissa Walker.
Curtiss Ann Matlock says, "I'll send over Jaime Durie from The Victory Garden program and he'll design you a garden for the day, you know, like one of those thirty-minute television shows."

Jade Lee stops by to say, "Due to the mishaps earlier in the week, I'm bringing a big bowl of Dragon Noodles.  Nothing paranormal or orgasmic at all."  "I am a hard core foodie and so would be happy to bring appetizers or a main course.  I make phenomenal hand made manicotti. And I have a easy peasy Hot Artichoke Dip.  I also have a great group of friends who love to raise the jolly roger and talk up romance both as writers and readers," says reader Santa.

Chocolate covered strawberries
From Heather Graham comes chocolate covered strawberries, a Jacuzzi, champagne and a pack of little cupids to make sure no one boils the lovers in the hot tub and tries to turn the romance into suspense.  Lucy Monroe lets us know, "I brought the tuna casserole, come and get it!"  Catherine Anderson is supply readers with a cheese and wine corner with merlot, aged cheeses, nuts, and fine chocolates.

"I brought coffee and chocolate cake (with lots of cream filling!) from Europe, where my latest historical was set.  Decadent stuff -
Hugh Jackmanand you deserve it, too!" says an excited Diane Whiteside.  "I'll be bringing the World's Largest Chocolate Fountain -- as big as Chicago's famous Buckingham Fountain.  No skinny dipping allowed.  No kidding <G>. And I'm bringing Hugh Jackman as one of my escorts," promises Cathie Linz.

Michelle Pillow apologizes, "So, after the whole blackened baking incident on Monday, I was asked to bring chips and soda. Funny how the exact same thing happened at a family reunion. LOL Anyway, they’ll hopefully be here shortly."  Catherine M. Wilson says, "As for good eats, I'll offer a virtual Spring Festival feast including lamb."  "I'll happily bring bleu cheese stuffed olives to complement all the cyber-martinis we'll be downing. Dirty martinis, that is,"  says Hope Tarr.   Francis Ray offers "I'd like to bring to the party a strawberry cheesecake.  I love desserts and so do my heroines."

"My hero Amado would like to send several cases of an excellent Argentine Malbec to lubricate the celebrations on Friday. His housekeeper Rosa will also make a plate of her famous alfajores. Maybe if Rosa drinks enough Malbec she'll reveal her secret recipe," says Jennifer LewisHelenKay Dimon says, "Will even bring the chips...well, the ones I don't eat on the way to the party."

Sparkly pink Tiaras from the Romance DivasKristen Painter tells me, "The Romance Divas will gladly supply everyone with sparkly pink tiaras and fluffy feather boas to wear while they enjoy the case of champagne and endless trays of chocolate-covered strawberries we'll be sending as well."  "Because I believe that romance never dies, I’m decorating with an entire room from an old mansion haunted by the spirits of Margaret Mitchell and Jane Austen says," promises Jacqueline Diamond.

"I'll provide not only the Cherry Bounce, but a really hot designated driver to take home anyone who drinks the Bounce!" says Sydney Croft.  Aimee and David Thurlo tell us, "Our Brotherhood of Navajo warriors will attend, shirtless, of course. And if we're very, very lucky, we can persuade them to demonstrate a few of their "special skills". No, I'm not saying what those are -- I'd rather they each surprise you."  Julie Kenner "Hopes everyone enjoys the hunky surfer dudes!  Summer's almost here!"

I love so many books, but a very personal favorite (for so many reasons) is Jennifer Crusie's Bet Me. It's a comfort read for me. I absolutely fell in love with the characters and have read the book so many times I've had to buy 3 copies. :)

I wasn't first today, but I'm thrilled to have made it the whole week. Kind of like running a marathon. I came dressed as Harry Potter since I already wear glasses and the robe seemed the most comfortable thing to wear (I know, I'm too sensible).

So, since were coming to the party in costume, I think I'll be a belly dancer. This will probably be my only oppurtunity EVER to look smashing in one if those outfits with a smooth pierced stomache. A girl can dream right?

Oh yeah, I'm toting around some Jack Daniels BBQ sauce, just in case!

Hey, the 'net gremlins ate part of my post! Thank goodness I had it in the clipboard. Here's the rest...<br/><br/>

I'm arriving in a palanquin borne by six of my Immortal vikings, with the additional three warriors carrying big casks of mead (honey wine), which they will be happy to pour for everyone. I'm wearing a dress of fine silver mail. My companions are wearing...well, hardly anything. Who'd want to cover up all that fine Viking flesh!

Now I'm going to make Lisa Hendrix give up a Viking or 3.

Oh, well, with the help of a little (okay, A LOT) of fairy dust, I've managed to slide into one of the kick-ass Eve Dallas outfits and convinced Roarke to come with me. Ladies, ladies, don't maul my date. Any other Petit Fours and Hot Tamales in the house yet? I don't care if they are blog sisters, I'm not sharing Roarke. Stay back, I brought my stunner!

Barbara before I forget congrats on your 500th blog I'm sending this e-mail because as both my daughters say I'm not very computer literate, I can read blogs but never been able to add back. Since this was the last day of the bash I was determined to poke my nose in and started by perusing my closet for a costume. The pickin's were meager so I opted for comfort and dressed as a Woodstock hippy since my 15yr old says my clothing is so old now it's in style as retro! And to follow the manners Mom instilled in me I did not come empty handed to a party I came loaded down with Beef Stew for my covered dish and fresh strawberries with melted dark Godiva Chocolate to dip in. So hi everyone may be late but I'm here.

I told you, Dark Hunter, don't play games with me. Monica told me you found Dawn. Don't test me, Hunter. *Growing angrier by the moment.* Unlike you, I don't need Acheron to help ME out. What do you mean at least you don't like sleeping in freezers. I told you. That was all a misunderstanding. I was hiding from that woman with the red lipstick and was locked in. Oh? You understand? She took your shirts too? Yes, these humans ARE odd. Now stop toying with me and tell me-WHERE IS-*Momentarily stunned speechless as Dark Hunter steps aside to reveal-* DAWN!

Michel! Michel! Mich- *winces in pain as he squeezes her but she doesn't care.* Everyone kept telling me they saw you but-*starts crying as he tenderly strokes her back, her hair-* I'm just so glad you're here.

Better late than never, but since I'm dressed as Beryl Markham, the first person to fly west from Europe to America solo and whose one and only book "West with the Night" is a beautiful read, I've come from a very long way away. Remember Dennis Finchahtten from "Out of Africa?" He'd invited her to fly with him that day he crashed and died. But back to Barb. I wanted to congratulate her on her 500th blog. We at WisRWA sure enjoyed her visit to our conference last spring. I hope you'll be attending again this June. www.WisRWA.org. Barbara Raffin www.BarbaraRaffin.com

I will always be there for you, little love. *Tenderly cups Dawn's chin.* I will always be there. *Light kiss on her nose, leisurely kiss on her lips.* Come, love, this party is over and it's time for bed. *low growl* I heard that, Zerek. you know perfectly well that I sleep in a bed. Sigh. I will never live this "Freezer Guy" thing down, will I?

Goodnight Everyone! I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all. I couldn't have weaved this story without each and every one of you. Barbara, thank you so much for letting me play. What started as a goof morphed into something else. Who knew? LOL! I had such a great time getting to know some of you and I hope you will keep in touch. I love creative, imaginative people like you. Please visit me and my friends at LIRW.org. And feel free to e-mail me and say hi. We recently started our own blog-thelirw.blogspot.com Please visit us. Maybe Freezer Guy and my other colorful friends will show up. Thank you so much. XOXO Dawn Berkoski (A.K.A. Dawn (LIRW) and the infamous Freezer Guy.) Oh and sorry for the typos, This site was harder to get into then Fort Knox, am I right? Most of my comments were posted in the wee hours of the night while I was bleary eyed and half awake. Here's wishing you lots of love and prices- Sweet dreams and goodnight.
